Students are tomorrow expected back to school despite teachers strike threats which has been paralyzed  by the court after today’s ruling.

The Ministry of Education on Monday announced new opening dates for schools countrywide to give parents and students time to travel to their destinations after the Christmas/New Year festivities

In circular dated December 24, 2018, the ministry pushed the date for all primary, secondary and teachers training colleges by a day to January 3, 2019.

Schools were scheduled to open on January 2, 2019.  Teachers were however been brought to  attention that the strike action commences exactly on the opening date of the new term.

In a press statement released on 30th December, the Kenya National Union of Teachers highlighted  the issues that they are addressing which are the reasons behind their strike

  1. Teachers’ Promotion$;
  2. Delocalization/Tran$fers;
  3. Performance Contracting $Y$tem;
  4. Teachers Professional Development Module$.

All teachers were also informed that it is their solemn duty to stand up in solidarity to defend the interests of the teaching service in Kenya.

The strike might however be paralysed judging from recent reports from the nation that the court has today issued an order blocking the teachers strike that was to begin on January 2, and stopped the Teachers Service Commission from transferring union officials from areas of their election.
