Brace yourselves!Sossion’s strike notice beyond reconciliation team’s control

Festivities are over, with barely two days remaining for the schools to open! Do you think this will happen?  Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion on Sunday issued a notice stating that the strike was still on.

As a result, the reconciliation team that was formed by Labour ministry scheduled talks between teachers’ employer TSC and KNUT, which TSC has skipped.

As a result, KNUT has asked tutors transferred by their employer not to report to their new stations as school open on Wednesday.

Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of acting in bad faith after its officials missed a conciliation meeting on Tuesday.

Mr Sossion said the teachers’ strike is still on unless TSC promotes more than 30,00 tutors who have acquired higher qualifications.

The Knut boss said he will defy a court order requiring the union to provide a list of teachers it wants promoted, saying that is solely the role of TSC’s human resource department to keep a register of tutors and their qualifications, a function paid for by taxpayers.
