OCS suspended after 5 minors were hospitalized for consuming illicit brew

CS Matiang'i suspends OCS after 5 children were hospitalised for consuming chang'aa in Bomet

Barely hours after firing two chiefs in Bomet county, the no nonsense Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has now interdicted Konoin Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Richard Moso for sleeping on his job.

Bomet County Commissioner Geoffrey Omonding announced the interdiction of the OCS during a public gathering held at Kaproret Primary School grounds, a short distance from the scene where the minors were found unconscious after consuming illicit brew.

Omoding said the OCS had failed to submit daily briefs to his bosses and to crack down on illicit brew in his region. On Thursday, December 27, Mogosiek Chief David Langat and Ngererit assistant chief Benjamin Chirchir were suspended over failure to get rid of chang’aa from their area of administration.

The County Commissioner who was acting on the orders of the CS said the government was determined to crack down illicit brew and would act decisively on police and county administrators who were sleeping on their job.

The minors were looking after cattle in Kaproret village when they discovered a five-liter jerrycan in a tea plantation and consumed its contents. They became intoxicated and were rescued by a good Samaritan who informed other residents and they were rushed to hospital for medical attention.

Following the incident, Matiang’i ordered investigations and four suspects were arrested and arraigned in court on Thursday, December 27, as the two chiefs were sent home.
