Ethiopia giants St George have expressed interest in acquiring the services of Gor Mahia midfielder Humphrey Mieno.

Media reports in Addis Ababa suggest there has been contact between the Ethiopian side and the Kenyan champions in the last few days with a source intimating to Soka that the 28 year old wants out.

“Gor Mahia are aware of of our interest and we understand the player wants to come to Addis, so it is all about agreeing on the offer or otherwise,” the source said.

The top Ethiopian club are in rebuilding mode after acquiring former AFC Leopards head coach Stewart Hall but the results have not been as pleasant under the Englishman. The Addis Ababa based club have won only one of their opening four league matches, a run that includes a loss to Sidama Bunna and last weekend’s draw away to Merkele.

Should the move happen, it will constitute a reunion of sorts, as Mieno and Hall worked together at KPL side Sofapaka and Azam FC in Tanzania.

The current record Ethiopian champions with 27 titles to their name, St George is also home to Kenya international keeper Patrik Matasi and immediate former AFC Leopards striker Alex Orotomal.
