How Manchester United ‘moved on from Jose Mourinho in just fifteen minutes’

Manchester United were clearing out Jose Mourinho’s office within minutes of his sacking, it has been reported.

Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday after two-and-a-half years in charge at United and was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a day later in a caretaker capacity until the end of the season.

And The Sun claim members of United’s kit room staff at the Carrington training complex were sent into Mourinho’s office to clear out his things into boxes ‘within minutes’.

They report a source as saying: “The club were ruthless in the end. Just minutes after being sacked they were in there.

“It took just 15 minutes to consign Jose to history. They dumped all his stuff into a white transit van.

“He spoke briefly to some of the support staff but spent most of his time in office on the day.”

The report comes after the Sunday Times claimed Mourinho was caught by surprise at his sacking, and thought he was meeting with Ed Woodward to discuss United’s January transfer strategy.

Mourinho is said to have turned up optimistic that Woodward was to give him the green light to strengthen United’s squad next month.

He was said to be shocked when Woodward told him his services would no longer be required.

And United’s all-time record goalscorer Wayne Rooney told BT Sport this weekend that the mood at United has already improved since Solskjaer arrived.

He said: “Of course I stay in touch with a lot of people at the club, I’ve spoken to them quite a lot certainly this week and I think to be a successful football club you need everything to be right.

“You need the staff at the training ground to be right, the groundsman whoever that is to feel happy and that rubs off on the players and I think that relationship between some of the staff and the players obviously wasn’t great. Bringing Ole in, bringing Mick Phelan in that’s already changed.

“The staff at the training ground are smiling, they’re happy, and that rubs off on the players. I think it’s a good move for the club while it gives the more time to get the right manager in place in the summer.”
