Manchester United cleared Jose Mourinho’s office out in just five minutes after he was axed, it has been claimed.
The Portuguese was sensationally sacked on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after the Red Devils lost convincingly to Liverpool 3-1.With United 19 points off the Premier League and rivals, Ed Woodward was forced to take action.United’s executive vice-chairman hauled Mourinho in for a 44-minute chat and sacked him on the spot.
It’s been reported that staff were immediately sent to clear out the Portuguese’s office. Mourinho’s pictures and trophies were among the items to have been boxed up.
A source told The Sun : “It took just 15 minutes to consign Jose to history. They dumped all his stuff into a white transit van.
“He spoke briefly to some of the support staff but spent most of his time in office on the day.”
It is understood Mourinho’s personal belongings were then transported away.Despite the brutal nature of Mourinho’s sacking, the 55-year-old released a statement revealing he was proud to have managed Manchester United.
“I have been immensely proud to wear the badge of Manchester United since the first day I arrived, and I believe all United supporters recognise this,” Mourinho penned.
“Just as was the case with my previous clubs, I have worked with some wonderful people and I believe that some will be my friends for life.
“I know that you are all aware of my professional principles. Each time a chapter is closed I show my deepest respect and I don’t make any comments about my former colleagues.
“I hope the media will also respect my position and let me live my normal life until the moment I decide to return to football.
“Merry Christmas.”
