What Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has said about the Manchester United job

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has quickly emerged as one of the favourites for the Manchester United job.

The Argentinian has long been touted with a move away from Spurs after his success in the role over the past four years.

But the North London side will understandably be desperate to hold on to their boss as they prepare for an exciting new era in their new stadium.

Pochettino has addressed rumours about the Manchester United job before, although the sacking of Jose Mourinho today has drastically changed the situation.

It is understood the Reds will look for a temporary caretaker boss until the end of the season, when they will search for a long-term solution with Pochettino in the mix.

When asked about the United job previously, Pochettino said: “The most important thing is I feel so happy here. Tottenham has given me the value.

“I feel happy here in Tottenham because I feel the recognition for our job. We feel that.

“When Daniel Levy extended my contract for five years, it is because he believed in that moment and period, we are the best people to manage this boat and this club.”

Pochettino has already been backed to be Mourinho’s long-term successor by Gary Neville.

The Manchester United legend said on Sky Sports: “For me the next manager of Man United should be Mauricio Pochettino.

“When I look at values at Man United, I look at his belief in young players.

“His performance levels, style of play, the way he’s carried himself.

“I was fortunate enough to spend two or three days at Tottenham’s training ground.

“My view is he is somebody who brings the three key principals of the club: style of play, promotion of youth and winning football matches.

“He is the person who is the outstanding candidate.”
