Manchester United released an official statement this morning, confirming Jose Mourinho had left the club. The Red Devils trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by 19 points following their 3-1 defeat at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Mourinho has taken a lot of criticism from fans and pundits alike over the season for his man-management, after public spats with the likes of Paul Pogba.

However, he is actually constantly in contact with his players, giving them support and confidence, an award-winning journalist has revealed. Harry Harris detailed in his book “Jose Mourinho: Simply the Best” the extent of his relationships.

“Mourinho’s close contact with his players is cradle to grave,” the 2014 book reads.

“Not only does he stay in touch with most of them after their day-to-day working relationship has ended, but he constantly texts them.

“He even makes contact with the incumbent players at a new club to assure them they will still be loved.”

Not only is the 55-year-old in constant contact, but he also sends a heartfelt message before he starts at a new club, it has been claimed.

The book adds: “Before Mourinho started at his new club [Manchester United] he sent an open letter to the players.

“It is an outline of his belief that football is a collective, that all the individual’s personal ambitions be put aside for the team mission to flourish.

“He promises to be fair but reminds the players that every decision he takes will be in the best interest of the club and team.

“If they fully commit to his way of working, he’ll devote himself totally to improving them.”

Michael Carrick will now take over the job for just 48 hours, while the Red Devils set about appointing an external caretaker manager.

They will then look to bring in a new long-term replacement in the summer.
