Man Utd Delaying Permanent Jose Mourinho Successor Appointment For THIS One Major Reason

Manchester United today confirmed the departure of Jose Mourinho following a dismal start to the Premier League that sees them sixth in the table, 19 points off league leaders Liverpool.

Michael Carrick will replace Mourinho at the helm on an interim basis.

Sources claim the first-team coach will only be in charge for two days before an external appointment is brought in until the end of the season.

The coach has been on the bench this season alongside Kieran McKenna. United are deciding not to appoint a permanent manager immediately because they are planning a new long-term structure reform, claim the Manchester Evening News.

They say the reason for the delay is to allow the club time to appoint a new head of football that would report to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

The United board want big changes after growing frustrated with a lack of progress in form, style of play and the progression of youth players.

And Red Devils legend Gary Neville believes the club must make the necessary changes at the top if they want to convince Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to take the reins at the end of the season.
