Jose Mourinho must be sick of the sight of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp following his sacking as Manchester United manager.
The Reds’ were the Portuguse’s final opponents as Red Devils boss as goals from Sadio Mane and a Xherdan Shaqiri brace saw Liverpool storm to a 3-1 victory over their fierce rivals at Anfield and return to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday.
In contrast, Mourinho’s now-former side were left trailing in sixth-place, a whopping 19 points behind Klopp’s unbeaten men after suffering their fifth Premier League defeat of the season.
But it is not the first time Klopp has played his part in the Portuguese losing his job.
The German’s first Premier League win as Liverpool manager saw the Reds come from behind to beat an under-pressure Mourinho’s Chelsea 3-1 in October 2015.
Reigning Premier League champions at the time, that defeat left Chelsea in 15th in the Premier League table with just 11 points from 11 games. Mourinho was sacked just weeks later as back-to-back defeats against AFC Bournemouth and Leicester City proved to be the final straw for owner Roman Abramovich.
And Klopp was also involved in Mourinho’s departure from Real Madrid back in 2013 as his Borussia Dortmund side thrashed the Spaniards in the Champions League semi-finals.
A 4-1 defeat at the Westfalenstadion left Madrid trophyless in the Portuguese’s final year at the club, with his departure from the Bernabeu confirmed a month later. And Liverpool’s victory on Sunday saw Klopp complete an unlikely hat-trick as lightning struck for Mourinho for the third time.
