A man hunt has now been launched for the assailants who attacked and burnt Dirip Gombo Location Chief George Biqa to death in Marsabit country. The Chief was attacked in broad daylight during the burial of a Kenya Police Reservist officer who was killed in a bandit attack on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the Chief was attacked by a group of people who branded him a traitor for allegedly taking a political stand and making derogatory remarks against one ethnic community. The assailants are said to have descended on the chief with kicks and blows before setting him a blaze.

Police have now been deployed in the area in numbers to track down the killers. Secret sources in the investigations say that the community from which the chief comes from were angered when he attended a function led by Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani to officially recognise the Wayu community as Kenyans.

The violence came in the wake of recent clashes between Gabra and Borana communities that left 14 dead and several others injured.

Many houses were also torched down, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i linking the violence to politicians.

In October, North Horr MP Chachu Ganya and his Saku counterpart Dido Rasso were arrested and charged with incitement to violence. No one has been arrested in connection with the latest violence which took place about 19 kilometers from Marsabit town.

The area MP is now calling on the police to move with speed and bring the culprits to book terming the mob justice as a very crude and wayward means of dispute resolution in the society which should never be embraced at all.

Do you think the police will find the culprits?
