Former President Daniel Arap Moi was this evening discharged from the Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted last Thursday for a medical check-up.

A statement by his office said Moi had been treated for “a bout of flu”, which doctors blamed on the current weather conditions.

“His physician Dr. David Silverstein said doctors had examined and closely observed the former president for the days of his admission and added that they had treated him for a bout of flu which he blamed on the chilly weather conditions now being experienced,” said the former president’s communication team.

The statement further cited Moi’s physician as saying the former president was responding well to treatment but needed time to rest.

On January 27, 2017 the former president underwent a minor surgery on his knee at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

In March this year, the 94-year-old former president was admitted to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel, for a medical check-up, with his office saying a previous knee injury had been causing him some discomfort. He was later discharged after doctors gave him a clean bill of health.

The problem with his knee began on July 30, 2006 after he was involved in an accident in Limuru. Moi had been travelling to Kabarak from Machakos, where he had presided over a graduation ceremony at Scotts Theological College.

The former president turned 94 in September this year, a ceremony which he celebrated in a private function at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County.

It’s good news for the country and the entire Moi family to know that the second president is recovering well. What is your recovery message to the former President?
