Jose Mourinho has come out fighting once again as he prepares his Manchester United team to take on the unbeaten league leaders Liverpool at Anfield this weekend. The Portuguese boss was on top form as he featured in an interview on Soccer AM this morning, criticising Liverpool’s lack of trophies ahead of the big game on Sunday afternoon.
The interviewer Tubes asked: “Is this the best Liverpool team that you think you’ll be facing because they are playing so well, do you think this is the best team you will face, Liverpool?”
Mourinho responded: “Well, I played against a Liverpool that was European champion.”
Tubes: “Is this team better though?”
Mourinho: “I don’t know if it’s better or if it is not better, I know that the other one was European champion and this one won nothing!”
Mourinho was, of course, talking about his impressive past performances against Liverpool for Chelsea after they won the Champions League in 2005, beating Mourinho’s Chelsea in controversial circumstances in the semi-final, with Luis Garcia’s ‘ghost goal’ the difference between the two sides.
Jose Mourinho has not lost to Liverpool in the Premier League as Manchester United manager which is an impressive record given the strength of Jurgen Klopp’s men over the past few seasons. Four of the last five meetings have ended in a draw with Marcus Rashford hitting a brace to secure a 2-1 win for United last time the sides met in March.
