Residents plead to the dog unit to find drowned bodies in Samburu floods

The weather has taken a turn on Kenyans who cant believe they will spend the Christmas holiday in chilliness and plenty of showers.

A  family has suffered a major blow and are in sombre as two people who went missing on Monday night after their vehicle was swept away by floods at Lengusuka River in Samburu East are yet to be found.

The vehicle, a Toyota hilux pick up, belonging to a business lady in Wamba town was moving from Meru town when the accident occurred.The man and a woman were travelling from Meru to Wamba town

Relative Kennedy Lesowapir said, “We are not giving up until we find them, even if it’s their bodies.”

A team of rescuers led by Samburu county administration police Commander John Muiruri Karanja are on the ground searching for the two persons.

Speaking to the press on phone Karanja said that they are yet to find the two persons.”We have come across a pair of shoes and some clothes but not yet to find any person,” he said.

The wreckage of the vehicle that was swept downstream has also been spotted according to sources.

Area MCA Lucas Lekwale said residents have complained that the river has claimed many lives since 2003.He asked the national government to build a better bridge along the river to prevent future disasters.

Etes Amu, who has lost six relatives after they drowned in the river, said a bridge needs to be built urgently.

Samburu Administration Police Commander John Karanja, who is leading the search team, said they are having a difficult time because of siltation in the river.

“The bodies may be buried under silt that is washed into the river by floodwaters,” he said

Residents have appealed to the dog unit to come to their rescue.

The driver survived the accident with minor injuries after he managed to jump out of the car.

He has been receiving treatment at Wamba Mission Hospital.
