Christmas has come early for many motorists in Kenya as the fuel prices go down in the latest review for December by the energy regulator.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has today announced a super petrol price drop of Ksh. 4.57 to Ksh. 113.54 per litre in Nairobi, with a marginal drop of Ksh. 0.55 to Ksh. 112.28 for diesel.

The cost of kerosene, mainly used by low-income households for cooking and lighting, has reduced by Ksh. 6.61 to Ksh. 105.22.

The regulator attributed the price reduction on the imported cargo to lower global fuel prices.

The changes in this month’s prices have been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreasing by 8.46% from USD 758.34 (approximately Ksh. 76,000) per ton in October 2018 to USD 694.18 (Ksh. 70,000) per ton in November 2018.

The new prices will be in force from December 15, 2018 to January 14, 2019, when the commission will do another review. The drop in fuel prices comes as relief to Kenyans who have been experiencing an upward movement of the important commodity in food processing and production.

Do you think the fuel prices will go lower in the near future?
