Arsenal Unai Emery “Temple run” tactics are a lifeline to his team

Gunners boss Unai Emery was delighted with the showing’s of several squad players and youngsters after the 1-0 Europa League win over Qarabag.

Alexandre Lacazette grabbed the only goal of the game, as the France International weaved his way through the defence before unleashing a strike into the bottom corner.

Fellow Frenchman Laurent Koscielny made his first Arsenal appearance since May, putting in a solid shift before being replaced by Nacho Monreal after 72 minutes.

Emery was pleased to see the 33-year-old take a big step in his recovery.

“We are doing with him our process after the big injury”, he said.

“When a player is coming back like Koscielny after a big injury, for Koscielny, it is good he has recovered.

“When he is coming back like today every supporter is happy, as are the players.

“He can take confidence again, take rhythm and then we are going to continue our process, maybe Sunday. But I want to wait to see how he will feel.

“Today is another step for him, for us. We need to know tomorrow and Saturday how he is going to feel after this match to see if he can help us on the pitch on Sunday.”

17-year-old Bukayo Sako also impressed for the Gunners and saw a golden chance to become Arsenal’s youngest ever European scorer pass him by late in the game.

Emery was impressed, however, with his and the performance of several youngsters who came into the side.

“We give young players the chance to train with us, we give chance like today when we can and they show us positive things”, he explained.

“Saka played with a good performance with big personality.

“His personality is very important to try and do one to ones in the second half and trying to break lines.

“We need to do the mix in the first 11 between young players and players with experience.

“You can play better with players to help you on the pitch.”
