In case you thought you had seen the best of 2018, then am about to disappoint. Our leaders never fail us when it comes to messy drama.
Peter Munya has made a name for himself due to his dramatic u-turns. In the aftermath of last year’s general elections, Munya joined the NASA coalition for one day before switching back to Jubilee after being promised a ministerial position.
But drama did not end there, perhaps too excited with his new position as the Trade Minister, Munya decided to exercise some of his powers by sacking the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) verbally. Even as the Meru governor, Munya was sacked through the ballot.
Mr Fanuel Odede Kidenda says he was fired by Munya during his maiden tour of the EPZ’s premises in Athi River on September 20.
He adds that the action was taken in front of staff. That is what power can do. Let us just say Munya was high on power.
The good news is that the High Court has ordered Munya to pay the CEO a four-month salary. Mr Kidenda will get his salaries for September, October, November and December.
Justice Hellen Wasilwa issued the order on Tuesday, when she also directed Mr Munya to withhold the appointment of Mr George Makateto to replace Mr Kidenda.
The appointment will stand suspended until a labour dispute filed by lawyer Dunstan Omari is determined on February 6.
What can you tell Peter Munya?
