Ezekiel Mutua launches new season of Coke Studio Africa

 

The Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Dr. Ezekiel Mutua this afternoon officiated the launch of the Sixth Edition of Coke Studio at Sankara hotel in Nairobi.

Coke Studio Africa is a non-competitive music collaboration show which seeks to bring together and celebrate the diversity of African Music and talent. The show gives upcoming artists the opportunity to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent.

The artists are drawn from different genres, eras and regions and put in pairs to create a modern and authentic African sound through musical fusion.

Speaking during the launch of next year’s season, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua said that Kenyan artists require exposure and support to make quality content that speaks to the dominant values of Kenyan people and cultures. He further said that the KFCB has offered to collaborate with Coca Cola Africa in using the Nairobi Film Centre to facilitate such enrichment master class sessions for Kenya’s creatives.

Ezekiel Mutua said that the launch of the refurbished Nairobi Cinema now known as Nairobi Film Centre will create a centre of excellence for the creative economy in Kenya.

 

 

Dr. Mutua further said that the Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communication Technology, Joe Mucheru said that the film policy is already before the cabinet and once passed, it will create incentives for the creatives in Kenya and make Kenya a competitive filming destination.

The KFCB boss also said that they are rolling out Sinema Mashinani, a project that will work towards encouraging creation and consumption of films in Kenya to meet the 40-60% local content.

The 6th edition of the music TV show Coke Studio Africa has already began production and will air starting Feb 2019. Sources say that fewer countries will be roped into Coke Studio Africa 2019 because it will be shot in Nairobi and will therefore feature stars from East and Central Africa only.

 

Coke Studio Africa is a music collaboration show that brings together diverse African music talent and they create Covers, Throwbacks and Original Compositions. They show also features one International musician. The last edition in 2017 featured American R&B star Trey Songz.
