In a charge sheet, the trio was accused of fraudulently taking baby Wambui with an intent to deprive Peter Kairu Kinuthia who was the lawful custodian of the baby.

Senior Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache had ordered the father of the child to stand during court proceedings to be identified.

Against expectations of many, Peter Kairu Kinuthia and Kenneth Mwangi stood up both claiming to be biological fathers of Wambui.

Confused by the new twist of events, Mochache ordered the child be taken to a children’s home and the mother, Joyce Wairimu Wahome, be taken to a psychiatrist for mental checkup.

After the child was found, using GPRS trackers, the police were able to track down communications between the mother and her two accomplices who were arrested in Molo, Nakuru county. Joyce Wairimu is said to have sold the baby to Margaret at an unknown amount of money.

The prosecutor asked the court to detain the trio for five more days to allow investigations to be concluded. The case is set to be heard again on Thursday, December 20.
