Sonko’s christmas goodies to Nairobi Hawkers

Governor Mike Sonko has  good news for Nairobi hawkers seems like Christmas came earlier for them.

The Nairobi Governor is currently working on a multi million market project that will shelter quite a number of Nairobi hawkers.

Sonko announced his visit to the ongoing construction of Mwariro market in Ziwani/Kariokor Ward in Starehe Constituency and Gikomba Fish Market.

He also added that hawkers will be moved to a permanent location once construction of Mwariro market is complete.

Sonko also added that the construction of the market is funded by the World Bank under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (Namsip) is expected to be complete in early 2019.

Among the visitors Ms. Betty Maina Principal Secretary, State Department of Investment and Industry in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives.

Hawkers have for the longest time  complained that they have no place to conduct their business after being banned from the town center. Some also had their stores brought down for being by the roads.

Finally they will still have  a place to call home; in the Mwario Market.
