Priority?County Government prefer supply of condoms over painkiller

Embu  Governor Martin Wambora on spot over supply of condoms worth Ksh30 million to various medical facilities in the county .

Members Of Embu County Assembly accussed the Governor of misusing the county funds with wrong priorities.Minority Leader Leonard Mwaniki lamented that a truckload of medical supplies flagged off by Wambora only contained condoms.

He accused the Governor of getting his priorities wrong as many hospitals in Embu lacked basic medicine including painkillers.

“It is sad that residents are in need of drugs but the county has the audacity to ferry a canter full of condoms to the health facilities,” the Kiambere ward representative stated.

Mwaniki was adding his voice to a motion on the status of the oxygen generating plant at the Embu Level Five hospital.

Nominated MCA Agnes Wanjiru, however,  got on Mwaniki’s wrong side after stating that condoms were important medical supplies which the Minority Leader himself probably used.

She clarified that she believed it was crucial to make condoms easily available in the county, a position supported by Mavuria MCA Ngari Mbaka who alluded to shocking figures on teenage pregnancies in Kenya.

Mwaniki was supported by Kagaari South MCA Robert Ireri who noted that there were several boxes full of condoms at Ugweri Hospital which lacked basic supplies.

They complained about the oversupply of condoms asking the county to focus on properly equipping and stocking facilities with medicine.

Nominated MCA Edna Muisyo sought to have the condom debate expunged from the order paper arguing it would not bode well for the county’s image.
