So Unplanned! How Welbeck’s injury alters Arsenal’s January transfer plans

So unfortunate it happened but it is expected in football. Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi has admitted that Danny Welbeck’s injury has alerted the club’s transfer plans.

The Spaniard claims that the Gunners are now open to making moves during the winter window.

However, young players, likeEddie Nketiah, may be given a chance to break into the first-team. Sanllehi on Arsenal’s January transfer moves: “We are definitely going to consider”

Welbeck was proving himself to be a useful squad member under Unai Emery.

But following the injury suffered against Sporting CP, Arsenal may be forced to find a replacement.

Sanllehi admitted:

“That is absolutely something unplanned.Yes, that makes you consider things.

“I am not saying that’s a green light to go to the market but we have good players in the house also that may get further opportunities, like Eddie Nketiah for example.

“We need to see. We are in November, so it’s a good time to start analysing what options we have in the market.

“We are not closing the door but it’s still not the preferred one.

“The plans were made in the summer. We are happy with how things are going.

“We are always going to strive to be the best team we can be.

“If there is a very good opportunity, we are definitely going to consider [it], we will see.

“Danny Welbeck’s injury alters, in a way, the views.”

Welbeck’s contract situation set to end Arsenal spell?

The 27-year-old’s injury comes at an awkward time for Arsenal.

The North London club were reportedly looking to offload him in January prior to his injury.

However, this long-term injury rules out a possible winter move for Welbeck.

Emery and the club must now consider the possibility of offering him a new contract or risk losing him for free.

His contract expires next summer meaning he would be free to leave Arsenal.
