How mean can some politicians be? You ask
This is the question some residents of a constituency in western Kenya are asking themselves after their MP contributed an amount of money considered to be ‘too little’ at a harambee.
The little known first term MP sent a contribution of Sh10,000 during an event meant to raise funds for a deceased constituent, whose body had been detained at a hospital over a huge bill.
Anyway , My question is, have Kenyan voters put unbearable pressure on MPs that they have resulted to adding a token to they salaries?
Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago Mukuha insults Kenyans. Calls them beggars and hypocrites whose greed has pushed MPs into seeking higher pay. He further says 1.2m is too little for an MP serving hundreds of ‘needy’ constituents #MheshimiwaFisi pic.twitter.com/fcluSSzDRk

Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago Mukuha has accused Kenyans of being hypocritical on their criticism on proposed pay increment tabled by Baringo North MP William Cheptumo.
Speaking within the precincts of Parliament, the MP ciphered that, “Our people are very hypocritical; an MP’s salary will never be enough. Out of my Ksh 1.2 million salary, half goes to harambees and charity work. My take home is just half a million shillings only.
Everybody expects an MP to lead a decent life; his children attend the best schools, live in a secure neighborhood etc. How do you expect us to survive on such a salary while the whole constituency is waiting for it in form of harambees every weekend?”
On the two third gender debate before parliament, the MP insinuated that Kenya is a very patriarchal society and since MP’s swore to ‘protect and defend the constitution’ during their swearing in, they now have no option other than support the bill.
“We need to empower our women, the salaries of the new members will be insignificant compared to the impact it will have on our society in general,” he observed. In September, the lawmaker made news after his wife accused him of assault when she confronted him for infecting her with STIs.
The wife later withdrew the charges and urged media to keep off their marriage. Sources privy to the raw revealed that Chief Administrative Secretary Rachel Shebesh intervened to save the MP from arrest.
Speaking in Mombasa yesterday during the official launch of Kenya Coast Guard Services, President Uhuru Kenyatta condemned the move by legislators to hike their pay and muzzling of SRC calling it immoral and retrogressive.
