Well seems like we have one particular family we dint know that exist where father and his daughter are members of parliament.
Kasarani Member of Parlianment Mercy Wanjiku Gakuya serves alongside her father, James Gakuya, who serves a neighboring Embakasi North constituency.
Before joining politics in 2017, Mercy worked as a lecturer at Kenyatta University.
She holds a master’s degree in Medical Physiology and a bachelors in Chemistry and Zoology (both from the University of Nairobi).
She derives her motivation to deliver servant leadership from her Christian upbringing that taught her to serve God and others in the society. Mercy envisions an inclusive and progressive Kasarani Constituency upon her election through enhancing the social and economic welfare of the residents in Kasarani to propel their economic empowerment.
Mercy has vast knowledge and experience on human resource management, marketing, administration and strategic management over the seven years she has worked in different organizations including universities, informal set ups and corporates across Eastern Africa. She has also gain cross cultural exposure through her work in United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Seychelles and Cote d’Ivoire. Through her passion for governance, she is currently an active member of Centre for Multi-party democracy (CMD), National Democratic Institute (NDI) and has been participating in leadership and training workshops both locally and across the border.
His father, Gakuya, is serving his second term as Embakasi North MP. He was previously a director at Makomboki Tea Factory in Murang’a.
