A young aspirant shocked Kenyans when he gathered all efforts to campaign twice for senatorial seat that he lost but for a young contestant his number of votes revealed he gave quite a challenge to the opponent.

In an interview with SDE Eddy Oketch has revealed the resources and other campaign materials that he has been using are purely sourced from well-wishers and the youth who are clamouring for change.

“We mobilised resources from the youth who want to be represented by one of their own to champion their agenda.”

When asked about using choppers in his race race for the Migori senatorial seat during last year’s General Election, when he battled it out with the late Senator Ben Oluoch Okello and came second, he expressed that,

“I used a chopper to traverse the county in search of votes, a move that has really been castigated by my critics from all quarters. I would like to set the record straight that my campaigns were purely funded through a campaign kitty that was created and sponsored by the youth.

It’s saddening that my opponents used a lot of propaganda to tarnish my name. The truth is that I’ve never met or been associated with the Deputy President.”

Eddy also narrated losing his mother who was the sole bread winner in 2003. He revealed death left him devastated and with nowhere to go, so he dropped out of school and resorted to menial jobs to sustain his other siblings.

“It is through the struggles that I got adopted by seven different foster families that saw me through the hurdles.”

He explained that he settled for FPK after realizing that there was no space for young people in ODM. Which was because of the selective approach they took when nominating a candidate for the Senate race.

“Most of us were for a democratic approach so that we elect a candidate of our choice, but this was sabotaged by direct nominations. I therefore opted for a different party.”

Awhile back while vying for the Migori Senate seat he disassociated his campaign with Deputy President William Ruto.

“The people of Migori should close their ears to propaganda being peddled by my opponents,” he said.

His remarks were in response to claims from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader Hassan Joho.

Joho, who led campaigns for their party candidate Ochillo Ayako, alleged that Oketch was being secretly funded by Ruto.

“The Migori senate race is a battle between Raila Odinga and the deputy president who is trying to raid the opposition’s political backyard through the Federal party candidate,” Joho claimed
