Machakos Deputy County Governor Francis Maliti is now only entitled to one pay check after he was impeached as the County Executive Committee member for Finance.

Mr. Maliti’s impeachment came after Members of County Assembly (MCAs) on Wednesday approved a report by the Ad-hoc committee on his impeachment.

Thirty five MCAs voted to impeach the deputy governor as the Finance boss, none opposed while the rest — 24 lawmakers — absconded.

Addressing the media on Monday, Governor Alfred Mutua said that Maliti’s impeachment was a political witch hunt, adding that he would continue serving as the Finance CEC.

Dr. Mutua accused the MCAs of impeaching the deputy governor to hide their corrupt dealings. According to the Governor, Maliti had written to the county assembly asking them to provide proper financial statements, expenditure and other relevant financial documents.

Earlier this week, Governor Mutua had written to the Auditor General to send a team to the County Assembly for a special financial audit focusing on specific areas of concern and individuals adding that after receiving the audit report, he will study it and take proper action including forwarding it to the EACC and DCI for appropriate action.

Led by Matungulu MCA Cosmas Masesi, the legislators accuse Maliti of failing to discharge his duties at the helm of the Finance docket.

However, this is not the only drama the Machakos county government is facing with its MCAs…

Yesterday, Governor Dr Alfred Mutua asked the county finance ministers not to pay the MCAs their salaries until they passed the county  integrated development plan which was the condition set by the controller of budget before releasing funds to ward representatives.

“The members of the county assembly who are fighting me approved their own salaries but failed to approve money for development. I have said they should also not get their salaries if they will not approve money for development,” said Mutua.

Do you think we should just pass a referendum and get rid of the MCAs once and for all?
