Two Baringo Members of County Assembly were Wednesday rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries during a scuffle that erupted at the county assembly.
The two, Silale Ward Representative Nelson Lotela and Nominated MCA Carolyn Kessei engaged in a fight following a disagreement over who should be the KANU Party’s representative in the county public service board.
According to reports, eleven MCAs of the KANU party went to the office of the minority leader to vote for the party’s representative but the meeting turned chaotic after the two MCAs tied during voting. Mr. Lotela, who is a Kanu ward rep, was beaten by his colleagues who were unable to agree on a representative to the new board.
One of the factions wanted the member who was in board Mr. Solomon Makal to be voted back while Mr. Lotela’s faction fronted Mr. Shadrack Mailuk both of whom got five votes each.
The law makers had convened to vote after the existing service board was disbanded yesterday night over corruption allegations.
The Silale MCA then insisted that the two names be presented to the county assembly to decide on one but thus sparking anger among his colleagues who feared ward reps would reject Mr. Makal.
The injured lawmakers were taken to Baringo Referral Hospital.
