The Camp Fire, in Butte County that could not be contained had burned through close to 18,000 acres as of Thursday evening. The Acting Governor, Gavin Newsom declared the camp fire a state of emergency as officials scrambled to evacuate area residents. The wildfire is said to have injured an undisclosed number of civilians and fire fighters who were trying to put out the fire.
Officials said that they had heard reports of fatalities but that they could not yet access the affected areas to confirm those reports.
The fire forced the evacuation of patients from Paradise’s main hospital to hospitals in Oroville and Chico. About 3,300 students and staff members from Paradise’s 11 schools were evacuated in buses and employees’ cars to a center in Chico, Butte County Schools Superintendent Tim Taylor said.
