Is the government moving closer towards finishing drug barons? Two drug related arrests have so far been made within one week.

After seizing drugs at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport packaged in make up kits and slated for China and New Zealand, detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have nabbed other barons with narcotic drugs.

Five suspects found trafficking narcotics weighing 103Kgs worth over Sh3million are to be arraigned in court on Thursday. Surprisingly, a woman is among the five. Have our women got trapped in this drug trafficking business nowadays?

The five who are James Igweta, Frida Kimani, Jacob Makunyu, Timothy Kinoti and Josphat Ekeno were arrested on Wednesday evening by DCI detectives.

They were arrested at Konje Estate, Meru Town following a tip-off from members of the public.

This comes a day after the DCI detectives seized narcotics worth millions of shillings at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The consignment was hidden in a carton containing make-up kits. The narcotics which comprised of heroin and methamphetamine were destined for New Zealand and China.

Last month, drug barons, the Akasha brothers who had been nabbed in Mombasa were prosecuted in the United States and they were found guilty of drug trafficking.

There case however had already been started in a Mombasa High Court before it was later mover to USA where they were charged.

Reports have had it that Politicians are among the main obstacles in the fight to stop heroin trafficking.

According to a European Union-funded report released last month powerful politicians are emerging as lead traffickers of heroin.

No names were given by the researchers who indicated that they interviewed several sources including senior Kenya Defence Forces officers and a veteran seafarer last September for the report.
