It’s a known fact that every woman looks forward to her wedding day with joy, and they usually count down to the day of their wedding.

On Saturday Mwai Muigai said ‘I do’ to his long time sweetheart Gwen Kiki. In what was one of the biggest society weddings this year, the ceremony at the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Ridgeways created a huge traffic build up as President Uhuru Kenyattta and other members of his family made their way to the church.

Mwai is the son of Ngengi Muigai, a former MP for Gatundu and producer Catherine Wangui Ngengi, daughter of former PC Isaiah Mathenge. Ngengi is brother to nominated senator Beth Mugo and cousin to Uhuru.

The afternoon ceremony was an elegant black and white affair with the bride looking resplendent in a fitting lace dress complete with a white fascinator. Her bridesmaids donned black dresses with their own colour choice of shoes all of which made for a very colourful sight.

Mwai walked out of the church a few minutes past 3:30pm with a wife, and the joy on their parents’ face was very evident. An elaborate and fancy marquee tent was set up at the Windsor Golf and Country Club where the reception and evening party were held.

Gwen let her hair down and changed into a white, strapless couture gown. Bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne flowed freely at the party that saw DJ Pinye ensure the guests did not leave until the wee hours of the morning.

Mwai is a finance and strategy consultant at Ericsson while Gwen is an expatriate formerly working as a french teacher. They have a 10-month-old son Ngengi Mwai.
