Man charged with murder of former Kakamega DC’s wife

Loise Yatich, the wife of former District Commissioner Paul Yatich was on Tuesday morning found murdered inside her house in Kiplombe in the outskirts of Eldoret. The body of Mrs. Yatich, 60, was found on Tuesday, October 16 in one of the rooms in her house.

Mr Yatich and his wife had not been living together for the last 10 years after they separated but said that used to communicate frequently. According to a statement recorded by Mr. Yatich, he tried to reach Loise but her phone went unanswered making him suspicious as she rarely missed calls.

“Though we have been separated we frequently communicate, I was shocked when my phone calls went unanswered. I reported the matter to the police station,” said Mr Yatich, who accompanied the police to the house.

Today a 26-year old, Boniface Kiptoo man was arraigned in an Eldoret court and charged with the brutal murder of the wife of the former Kakamega District Commissioner (DC) Paul Yatich. Mr. Kiptoo was arraigned before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Harrison Barasa and charged with three counts of murder, handling of stolen property and robbery.

The court was told that he committed the offence between October 13 and October 14, 2018 at Kibulgeny area in Soy Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County. The court heard that, jointly with others not before the court, Kiptoo killed the deceased using a blunt object before stealing her household property including a vehicle, two ATM cards whose accounts contained about Ksh. 700,000.

A request by the accused to be released on bail was denied with the Court arguing that he was a flight risk. According to prosecutor Thomas Mwaura, there was a likelihood that the accused would abscond court if released on bail, noting that he neither has a known abode nor is his parent’s residence known.

The magistrate agreed with the prosecution and directed that the accused be remanded and ruled that the case be heard on November 15, 2018.

The late Loise was a Curriculum Development Officer with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Uasin Gishu County.

“It is sad that they had to kill an innocent helpless woman, I feel sorry for my kids but we leave all to God,” said Mr Yatich.
