And now, according to The Sun, Rooney will be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for a charity fund-raising friendly against the United States on November 15.

The Football Association have held extensive talks with Rooney’s camp and hope to raise more than £500,000 for various charities as well as giving England’s all-time scorer a fitting send-off. Rooney retired with relatively little fanfare despite his 119 caps and record 53 goals, but the match would give England fans the chance to say a ‘fond farewell’

Money raised from the match would go towards various children’s charities as well as the Wayne Rooney Foundation – the Wembley Arch will even be illuminated in the foundation’s gold colours. Although Harry Kane is the current England captain, he will give the armband over to Rooney for the special occasion.
