A group of Rift Valley politicians yesterday met former Governor Isaac Rutto in Bomet in what was seen as a move to cement Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential plans.
The meeting which brought together Chama cha Mashinani party officials, elected leaders, former aspirants and supporters was convened by Ruto at his Chepalungu home.
The eight-hour-long meeting which happens days after MPs from Mt Kenya region met in Naivasha was attended by governors Paul Chepkwony (Kericho), Samuel Tunai (Narok) and Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu).
Others were Kanu-elected Governor John Lonyangapuo (West Pokot), Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot, the DP’s personal assistant Farouk Kibet and Chepalungu MP Gideon Koskei.
The politicians declined to speak to the press.
A source privy to the meeting said they had been invited to attend to the meeting where some ‘visitors’ would attend.
“We just received calls on Wednesday evening that we are supposed to be at the home on Thursday morning and that the agenda will be party matters,” said one of the former aspirants who requested anonymity.
