Lerato has filed an urgent interdict to stop the Tsambo family from proceeding with funeral arrangements. Sengadi said she and the rapper had a customary marriage on February 28, 2016 but added that the Tsambo family did not recognize her as his wife and that she had not been allowed to be involved in any of his funeral arrangements.

“As Jabba’s lawful customary wife, it is my right to make the necessary funeral arrangements for his burial and to play an integral part in all of the actions and proceedings in relation thereto. I have been deprived of this right. I have simply and without cause been prevented by the respondent from fulfilling my role as customary wife,” read an affidavit by Lerato.

The two parties are in court following an interdict by Sengadi to stop her ‘father in law’ Robert Tsambo from burying the body of the late Motswako superstar in Mafikeng. According to Sengadi, she wants HHP to be buried in Johannesburg where he will be close to Sengadi and his 13-year-old son.

In her affidavit, Lerato also said that the rapper originates from Mafikeng and the only close relative who resides there is his ailing mother.

“His life, friends and his work were centralized within Johannesburg hence his wish to be buried at Westpark, Johannesburg,” it says.

The Tsambo family plans to lay the rapper to rest at Heroes Acre at the Mmabatho Cemetery on Saturday.

She states that following the death of Linda ‘PRO’ Mkhize, HHP indicated to her the exact wishes that he wanted to be respected in the event of his death.

Responding to Sengadi, HHP’s father, Robert Tsambo states that “Ms Lerato Sengadi has never been handed over (gorosiwa) to the Tsambo family by any form of ceremony, accompanied by her family members, so as to be accepted as makoti as this is the vital requirement in validating the customary marriage.”

Mr. Tsambo also said that the marriage was never registered within three months at the Department of Home Affairs.

After HHP’s passing it emerged that the rapper and his wife Ms. Lerato Sengadi never lived together. Responding to the allegations, Sengadi said that she caught HHP cheating on her with another woman.

“During that time, I contacted Jabba via FaceTime, which includes visual communication and noticed that Jabba was in bed with another woman. I noticed from Jabba’s demeanour that he was under the influence of drugs as he couldn’t be bothered by the fact that he had been caught out and I was seriously upset and distressed in finding him in this compromising position. I immediately left the matrimonial home, taking the same luggage I had brought back from Malaysia and went and stayed with a friend temporarily,” said Sengadi.

The Tsambo family refused to comment on the claims in Sengadi’s affidavit saying that they were intended to tarnish the deceased rapper’s image.

“In the immediate, we will not be responding to Ms Sengadi’s outrageous and sensational claims contained in her founding affidavit, which seek to impugn the good image and person of Jabba,” he said.

Do you think HHP’s family is justified in the way they have treated Ms. Sengadi?
