Accused Not Guilty- Jacque Maribe Free From Bail Not From Jail?

Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi on Wednesday revealed that Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe who was freed on bail on Tuesday had not been released from prison as directed by the judge.

Itumbi claimed that the Deputy Registrar in the High Court had frustrated the process although they had completed the bond process.

“Yesterday, the same games were employed. The Deputy Registrar declined to sign the letter committing documents to land registry and registrar of persons yesterday. We decided to wait for today,” Itumbi Tweeted.

“We completed the bond process for our friend Jacque Maribe at 12 pm and till now no progress & she is looking at another night in prison despite being freed by The Court yesterday. Let me tell you of the games,” he added.

Itumbi who is a close friend of Maribe noted that on Wednesday morning, Maribe’s family and friends had reported at the High Court at 7 am and it was not until 11 am that the Deputy Registrar signed a letter that was on her desk since Tuesday evening.

He also claimed that they encountered problems after the team mandated with the release of Maribe tried to apply a technicality to hinder her immediate release from jail.

“Problem is after that we were told there is an order that “UPON release the investigating officer and the advocate will take an inventory of house” we argued that is UPON release. So they dropped that line,” Itumbi remarked.

“Next we needed a prosecutor from the ODPP and obviously none was willing to get on the record. So we decided to tweet,” he added.

The digital strategist, however, stated that after going public with their ordeal calls that were not being picked by the office of the DCI and DPP were returned and thanked netizens for helping.

Journalist Jacque Maribe was released on Ksh2 million surety bond with an alternative of a Ksh1 million cash bail with three sureties of a similar amount after a month-long incarceration.
