The Rich Also Cry? Central Kenya MPs Hit Hard by “Tano Terror”

Ever heard of the say that the Rich also cry? Well, this is the story of nagging politicians from the Mount Kenya region.

Central Kenya MPs have of late been on a ranting spree. The Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region actually look like a confused lot with claims that they are apparently divided on who to support come 2022. Some sections have pledged support for deputy president William Ruto while the other lot want to go with a new candidate all together.

After initiating 2022 succession talks by suggesting that the Mt. Kenya region will not accept any deal that will affect the people from the region, the Mps, in last minute attempts to calm the political temperature decided to drop the talks and have instead decided to meet the President with fresh demands to him. It is these new demands that has got everyone talking.

The Mps abandoned the planned Naivasha meeting and instead met at Enashipai resort where they resolved that meeting with Uhuru to get clarity on the President’s 2022 plans following his handshake with NASA chief Raila Odinga was the best thing.

The Mount Kenya leaders will meet the President in Karatina before he embarks on various developmental tours of the vast Nyeri county tomorrow.

Top on their agenda was the issue of the development of the region with the MPs calling for the government to allocate at least 60% of the country’s collected revenue to the region since it contributes to 60% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

Having now dropped the 2022 succession talks to focus on development, the MPs have unanimously agreed to push for the region’s development agenda.

Many Kenyans however have been shocked by the MPs recent demands since the region they come from unanimously voted for Uhuru Kenyatta. Their main reason for voting was apparently because the President had a good development record in the region. How then is it possible that the Mount Kenya is still underdeveloped?

Mount Kenya MPs have accused the Jubilee government of neglecting the region despite voting for President Uhuru overwhelmingly in the last general elections.

Speaking to the media after the deliberations at Enashipai resort, Cecily Mbarire said that the Mount Kenya region was completely behind the president and that they were in full support of the Big 4 Agenda.

She said they had identified development priorities for the region in particular with regards to water, roads, electricity and agriculture.

“We have developed a detailed development matrix that we shall forward to the President for implementation and Mt Kenya region must claim its rightful share of development in the country, within the remaining four years of this current administration,” she said.

Her demands have not been taken lightly by a section of Kenyans who bashed the Mount Kenya leaders calling them “greedy”
