List of cities you might want to consider living in as a millennial

Every year on 31 October, the world observes World Cities Day a concept that was birthed by United Nations.

According to the United Nations, World Cities Day is expected to greatly promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities, address the challenges of urbanization and contribute to sustainable urban development around the world.

The theme for this year’s World Cities Day is ‘Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities’, and the main event is scheduled to take place in Liverpool, UK.

Most millennials care more about housing and human rights than partying. Before moving to a different city, millennials take into account the availability of work in the city, affordability of living, openness and tolerance of the city and finally how fun is the city.

According to a survey conducted by Nestpick, here are some of the top ten cities to live in, especially if you’re a millennial.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin is the capital city of Germany and one of the most stimulating creative and cultural centers in all of Europe.

The capital city was ranked on of the best cities for young people due to its high scores in public transport, overall infrastructure and start-up-friendliness.

It’s very difficult to single out any particular neighborhood of Montreal, as most will agree living in pretty much any region of the city is awesome.

The city is much more affordable than Toronto, and there are numerous other reasons such as  business opportunities, housing and lifestyle affordability, recreation and openness that make Montreal a great city for millennials.

London, United Kingdom

It is still one of the best cities to live and work in, coming a close third to Berlin and Montréal overall. London is frequently cited as the most desirable places for recent graduates as it offers exciting job prospects and a chance to work for some of the world’s biggest companies.
It also has the highest proportion of people employed in the creative industry.
Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is ranked one of the highest cities when it comes to cycling. The city received gold stars for provision and performance with around half of journeys in the city made by bike. It’s also ranked the hub of innovation and the second most LGBT-friendly city in the world.

Toronto, Canada

Toronto is one of the best place for young people to live, work and play, based on metrics such as the cost of a transit pass, monthly rent and concert tickets along with measures of youth unemployment, digital access and crime stats. The city has an efficient public transport system, plenty of top-notch universities and an exciting food scene.

Vancouver is surrounded by the Pacific and snow-capped mountains which make for spectacular outdoor spaces. Despite the expensive housing situation, Vancouver remains the cultural hub offering hip drinking and dining establishments. It was also ranked high in immigration tolerance.

7.Barcelona, Spain

The capital, and crown jewel, of Catalonia has all the nightlife, shopping and culture you could wish for and even a huge, sandy beach without the high rents and tourist crowds. Millennials have moved to Barcelona to enjoy the happy life of traveling, drinking, and living.

The youth have found light in these dimensions where they are able to juggle the time for work and life, and exert efforts on finding stability and happiness at the same time.

Despite the fact that it’s basically impossible to afford living here, it is still a place that young people want to live in. The housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities might be the reason a huge chunk of millennials are moving to New York.

 

9. Cologne, Germany

Cologne is known for it’s nightlife scene. The city has a high number of clubs and their opening times in the calculating formula. The city is also ranked the second highest in gender equality as the idea that one gender is superior to another is outdated. Cologne is also has a renowned art scene and an urban center with spectacular architecture.

 

10. Manchester, United Kingdom

The second largest city in the UK, and the sixth largest city in Europe, is home to leading universities and colleges, such as, University of Manchester. The city offers a well-connected transportation network, internet speed, gender equality, start-up opportunities and progress in the work place.

Manchester scored particularly well when it comes to personal freedom and choice, LGBT friendly markers, immigration tolerance, and nightlife.

 

The concept of smart cities has quickly gained popularity over the last few years. Many countries are thinking laterally about transforming their cities into global destinations for investment, tourism, and startup hubs.

The Sustainable Development Goal 11 remains the keystone of the United Nations commitment and ambition to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
