Its been a unique National exams this year starting with change in the cabinet head of Education from Matiang’i to Amina Mohammed. The two however have been seen working together to ensure smooth flow of the examinations and security to prevent cheating.

Even with all the tight measures put in place including choppers for emergencies still drama had to appear in some parts of the country including arrest of few exam leakage perpetrators, giving birth of girls during exams, drunk center managers and even missing of exam papers.

The most recent news however is shocking and saddening as it reveals the demise of a candidate whose pressure drove to an ugly resolution. One KCPE candidate at Koyoo Primary School in Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County has been rushed to Kisii County Referral Hospital in a critical condition after consuming poison under unclear circumstances.

Rooney Okoth Ongola, 18, consumed a pesticide known as Triatix on Tuesday night at their home in Kowano village, after writing the three exams set for the first day.

Homa Bay County police Commander Marius Tum confirmed the incident saying the candidate is set to miss the remaining exams as he is in an unstable condition.

According to the area Assistant Chief James Omino, the candidate had phoned one of his fellow candidates informing him that he had consumed poison.

The pupil, who has been living with his brother, is alleged to have sneaked into his bedroom with the poison and consumed it before notifying his friend.

The administrator added that the candidate had been regularly skipping school as well as disappearing from their home occasionally.

Meanwhile, a female KCPE candidate at Kikubi Primary School in Suba North Constituency has been rushed to Nyandiwa Health Center for delivery after she developed labour pain when she was about to start her day two exams.
