Did your parents ever warn you about having a boyfriend in your primary school days? Here’s why…

Today, a candidate from Iruri Primary School in  Maara Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County was preparing to sit for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) but was attacked and stabbed severally by a knife on her head by her boyfriend.

The candidate was on her way to school when her boyfriend attacked her and fled. According to Maara OCPD Johnstone Kabusia, the girl was not in a bad state but was given First Aid and sat for her mathematics examination.

“The girl was given first aid and has joined other candidates for the exam though in pain,” Kabusia said.

She was later taken to hospital to receive further medical attention and ended up taking the rest of her exams from there.

Mr. Kabusia, the young girl was stabbed just a few meters away from the school. Although the information surrounding the incident has not been provided, it is believed that the girl was stabbed by her boyfriend who had refused her to sit for the national examinations as he wanted to marry her.

A manhunt has since been launched for the suspect who fled the scene and went into hiding. The OCPD asked residents to provide the police with any information that would help them arrest the man. Mr. Kabusia also asked parents to accompany the candidates to school during this crucial examination period to avoid such incidents.

“As police give security, I urge parents to also make sure their children are safe on their way to school and back,” he said.

County Director of Education, Ms Ann Kiilu demanded for the arrest and prosecution of the man who stabbed the class eight pupil.

“We demand for the arrest and prosecution of the attacker,” said Ms Kiilu.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination started off this morning as candidates sat for their Mathematics and English language tests and English composition in the afternoon. Tomorrow, the candidates will write their Kiswahili lugha and Insha papers and finally finish off with Social Studies and Religious Education on Thursday morning.
