‘It was never a penalty’ Everton boss Silva accuses Martial of diving for penalty

The center  referee always has the las say and even though he decide it was a penalty, Everton manager Marco Silva felt Anthony Martial dived to win the first-half penalty that led to Paul Pogba’s opener for Manchester United.

Pogba was given the opportunity to put United ahead after Martial went down under a challenge from Idrissa Gueye, who appeared to get a slight touch on the ball before barging into the Frenchman.

Jordan Pickford saved Pogba’s effort before the midfielder knocked in the rebound as United went on to win 2-1.

However, Silva thinks Martial went down to easily and that Gueye touched the ball during the incident.

“The game was really balanced and the (penalty) decision made them comfortable in the match,” he told Sky Sports.

“It looks no penalty, it looks diving, and my player (Gueye) told me it’s clear that he touched the ball.

“It was a difficult sensation for us because you come here to play a strong side, and then one moment like that starts to make it easy for our opponent. It’s not a tough decision for the referee.”

The French forward has scored four goals in his last three Premier League matches.

Of course, back in the summer rumours were flying about that Martial could be heading out the Old Trafford exit door.

Martial memorably left Man United’s pre-season tour in America to return to Europe for the birth of his second child.

So how has Martial turned his fortunes around at United?

According to Mourinho, he deserves his fair share of praise for Martial’s upturn in form. The Man United boss said:

When the players are playing bad it’s my fault, when the players play well it’s my responsibility!

Mourinho also commented that Martial has finally got his “brain and body to be ready”.

Martial has keen to extend his Manchester United contract, even if Jose Mourinho remains United boss.

The relationship between Mourinho and Martial has been scrutinised by some sections of the media and it was thought Martial would not stay at United if Mourinho did.

Martial’s current deal runs out in July of 2019 but it now seems that both Martial and United are keen for the Frenchman to extend his stay in Manchester.
