Politician in grisly road accident airlifted for special monitoring

Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo has been transferred to the Nairobi Hospital for specialised treatment after she was involved in a road accident on Sunday morning.

Dr. Odhiambo had been admitted at the Aga Khan hospital in Kisumu where she was rushed together with her driver David Ouma and two other officers following the fatal car crash that killed her bodyguard Fred Owich.

The Migori woman representative sustained chest injuries and is in stable condition, according to Dr. Sam Oula, a Medical Superintendent the Aga Khan hospital in Kisumu.

David Ouma (driver), Duncan Rachuonyo (communications officer), Dan Amoki (Migori County Coordinator Affirmative Action officer) are reported to be in stable condition, but will remain admitted at the Aga Khan hospital for close monitoring.

Addressing journalists at the health facility, Dr. Oula said, the woman representative was referred to Nairobi to be assessed by a spinal surgeon after they discovered that she had sustained injuries on her backbone.

The legislator and her aides were heading to Migori when the double cabin vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and rolled several times.

The driver is reported to have lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a boda-boda rider.

The bodyguard died on the spot while the woman representative and her three officers sustained several injuries.

The body of the bodyguard was moved to Rosewood hospital mortuary.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga condoled with the bodyguard’s family as he wished the Migori Woman Representative a quick recovery.

“We have received disturbing news about Migori Woman Representative Hon. Dr Pamela Odhiambo being involved in a grisly road accident this morning. I wish the MP quick recovery,” said Odinga in a tweet.

“My deep and sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Odhiambo’s body guard Mr. Owich who, unfortunately, lost his life in the accident.”
