Shackles of his feet; Obado dances his way out of Remand

Migori Governor Okoth Obado is finally free after one whole month of being in remand following his arrest after he was linked to and charged with the murder of Rongo University student, Sharon Otieno.

The Migori Governor was granted a Ksh. 5 million cash bail yesterday but had to spend another night in prison as there were issues with some sureties that needed to be sorted out before he could walk out of the Industrial Area Remand prison. Obado on Wednesday deposited the Ksh. 5 million cash bail and also presented two of his cars, a Toyota Prado and Toyota Land Cruiser V8 as sureties.

However, Judge Lessit gave the Governor a long list of bail conditions that he needed to abide with failure to which the court would cancel his bail. Going forward, the journey will not be easy for the governor as there are threats to impeach him especially from the Orange Democratic Movement and some MCAs.

Early this week, ODM chairman Philip Makabongo gave ward representatives two weeks to dismiss Mr Obado on grounds that he lack intergrity.

“If the MCAs do not impeach him, the party will look for ways of removing the governor. We are serious on this matter,” Mr Makabongo said.

However, Mr. Obado seems to have a lot of influence in the county assembly therefore it could be almost close to impossible to impeach the governor.

The ODM party leader Raila Odinga while campaigning for the Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko said that Obado should carry his own cross.

“So far all indicators are pointing at Obado, let him prove his innocence in court,” Raila said.

The Migori governor, and his two counterparts; Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo and Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero were on September 24th charged with two counts of murder, that of Sharon Otieno and her unknown baby.

According to the ruling made by Justice Lessit, the case will now be heard in May 2019.
