Quest: Why you may choose Nairobi over NY and London(Watch Video)

CNN’s business news anchor and reporter Richard Austin Quest who has been in Kenya since the beginning of this week has revealed how better Kenya’s economy is compared to that of New York and London.

This is one of the reasons he has singled out as to why one will choose Nairobi over London and New York.

Business means Quest, who went live on CNN from Nairobi on Thursday and expected to go live again on Friday said that money transactions in Nairobi is easy and cheap in Kenya compared to New York and London.

Quest was applauding mobile money banking service, MPesa, which he rated as the best mobile money banking in East Africa.

While going live, Quest will be looking at how technology is in Africa with a case of Kenya.

On Tuesday he appeared on Capital FM on a show dubbed capital in the morning and talked about how vibrant and magnificent Kenya’s economy is.

He however singled out political instability and shifting policies as the key impediment to Africa’s economic growth.

Quest said there is a need for clear government policies that transcend individual administrations in order to boost investor confidence.

“We all know that Africa has vast resources. We all know the great potential – Africa rising. But why hasn’t Africa risen? The reason is always lack of certainty, lack of stability, lack of knowing what the government policies are going to be,” Quest told Capital in the Morning.

Making reference to Kenya, Quest said squabbles witnessed around electioneering periods have greatly undermined the country’s economic potential as most progress made is often derailed when the nation heads to the polls.

According to Quest, elections should proceed seamlessly and in an orderly manner with the outcome of the same accepted even if some parties do not like the outcome.

“Kenya is great – a wonderful and peaceful society until you have an election. Investors want to know that there’ll be peace and security, and stability of policy, before, middle and after elections,” he said.

“It is no use to having this great period of thriving economics, good education, and then overnight it all changes,” he added.

Quest will be among the maiden inaugural Kenya airways flight to New York on Sunday October 28, 2018 alongside two other Kenyan youths who won the tickets after their invitational skills were realised by the statehouse.

They were given their tickets by statehouse spokesperson Kanze Dena early this week.
