The Deputy President William Ruto has today got  a piece of the bitter pie after angry Kenyans reacted to his statement in regard to University graduands who end up in the streets selling maize.

“Going into the future, we are going to enhance that formula to include relevance in the courses that are taught in the universities and the quality of the graduates that come from that university.Universities need to begin to up their game. If you are going to spend public money
We need to see the value of the money we spend in every university.

If a university is busy sending out graduates who end up roasting maize then they do not deserve public resources…

We are going to be insisting that it is not enough to produce graduates they must be concerned whether they have been taught the right causes and whether they are employable in the market place.

A university should be ashamed that their graduate is roasting maize by the road side and if they are not then there is something wrong.

A university must follow through their graduates and see whether the courses they teach are relevant in relation to the economy” he said

Valid points on the teaching of relevant courses but on the maize selling graduands, well  this did not sit well with  some Kenyans who complained that at least it adds value and also the only reason why they end up there is not a fault by the university but on the state of corruption in the country and specifically the government.
