Arsenal legend takes a jibe at Lukaku’s pussycat-like performance

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has slammed Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku following his poor performance against Juventus in Champions League encounter.

Lukaku has been one of Jose Mourinho’s untouchable star in the squad, always starting despite failing to perform as expected. However, with his recent display, he risks being axed from United’s starting XI when his side takes on Everton.

Mourinho, who never made any sub in United’s 0-1 defeat to Juventus, said he did not play Rashford through the middle because he didn’t have anyone else to play out wide. Keown, who made 400 appearances for Arsenal, winning ten honors had his say on Lukaku’s current form.

“When Manchester United returned to the field for the second half against Juventus, Romelu Lukaku emerged from the tunnel much later than his team-mates. He looked like he would rather have been anywhere else,” said Keown.

“This is a striker who is blessed with brute strength and electrifying pace. He should be roaring like a lion, but on Tuesday he played like a pussycat — and not for the first time,” he added.

“Lukaku was bullied all night long by Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, the Juventus center-halves. I cannot remember him winning a single contest in the air. Contrast Lukaku’s movement with that of Cristiano Ronaldo.Lukaku looks like a traffic warden when he points at team-mates to tell them where to go but he does not offer any movement himself.”

Lukaku could face his former side as United will be hosting Everton on Sunday 28th.
