Why Okoth Obado’s Bail Might Be Revoked Even Tomorrow

Migori governor Okoth Obado might have been released on bail but he is certainly not off the hook. The governor will live life like a chained Dog that always follow’s it’s master.

The High Court gave the governor strict instructions to follow failure to which he will be a guest of the state anytime soon.

After turning down earlier applications by Mr Obado’s lawyer Mr. Cliffe Ombetsa, Justice Lessit granted the controversial Governor a Sh5 million bail with two sureties of the same amount but on condition that he adheres to the following orders or risk losing his bail:

  • That the Governor shall report to the Deputy Registrar of the Milimani High Court once a month.
  • Governor Obado was restricted from contacting any of the witnesses in the case.
  • That Obado does not intimidate parents or siblings of the deceased Sharon Otieno.
  • He surrenders his travel documents in court, that is his Kenyan, East Africa and diplomatic passports.
  • That he stays at least 20 kilometres away from Homabay county where Sharon hails from.
  • That the County boss refrains from mentioning the case or Sharon in any formal or informal meetings.
  • That he doesn’t cause an adjournment during the period of the case.

According to Justice Lessit, breaking any of the above orders shall i lead to immediate cancellation of his bail.

Mr. Obado is facing murder charges regarding the death of university student Sharon Otieno.

Ms Otieno body was found mutilated and abandoned in a thicket a month ago and six people have so far been arrested in connection with the brutal murder.

A DNA test contacted by the government revealed that the seven-month stubbed foetus found in Sharon’s womb was “99.9% fathered” by Mr Obado.

Obado’s co-accused Michael Oyamo (personal assistant) and Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero will remain in custody after being denied bail. Judge Lesiit ruled that the release of Oyamo and Obiero would cause fear and anxiety among members of the public. She also cited security concerns as part of the reasons why the two will remain at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

Obado and his co-accused are facing two murder charges. One for killing his girlfriend Sharon Otieno and the other for killing her unborn baby.

The late Sharon was finally laid to rest over the weekend with her family saying that the belief that they will soon get justice for their slain daughter informed their decision to finally lay her to rest.

“We have seen suspects connected to her murder arraigned in court. We are happy with the investigations so far and believe her killers will pay for their crimes,” Said Sharon’s Dad.

It is yet to be seen how Sharon’s family will react to Obado’s release but many Kenyans’s online have taken issue with Justice Lesiit’s decision to release Obado and detain Oyamo and Obiero.

The Murder case hearing will begin in May next year.
