Miguna Challenge’s Raila to First Develop Migingo Island in His New Role

Self Proclaimed General Miguna Miguna seem to be a man on a mission to completely destroy Opposition Chief Raila Odinga. Days after saying that Raila’s new role as High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa involves attending Funerals in Africa, the general has hit back again this time challenging Hon. Odinga to facilitate infrastructure development at Migingo Island.

“Migingo Island in Migori County, Nyanza, where comes from, has been under UGANDA military occupation since 2008. Its residents are abused, abducted, tortured & killed. It has no INFRASTRUCTURE. Yet is the “head of Africa’s infrastructure?” tweeted Miguna.

Raila on Saturday while attending Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kakamega county, revealed that he had been picked for the position to lead AU’s efforts in mobilizing political support and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and advocating for better relationships on the continent.

While announcing Mr. Odinga’s appointment, AU Chairperson Moussa Mahamat said that the decision was  part of the African Union’s drive to expedite the integration of the continent through infrastructure, in order to promote economic growth and sustainable development.

In a statement on Saturday, Mahamat said the High Representative will work to support and strengthen the efforts of the Commission’s relevant departments.

Raila’s mandate includes mobilising further political support from member states and the regional economic communities and facilitating greater ownership by all concerned stakeholders on the continent.

“He will also support the Commission and NEPAD initiatives to encourage increased commitment from development partners,” Mahamat said.

Raila is expected to pay particular attention to the missing links along the transnational highway corridors identified as part of the Trans-African Highways Network, with a view to facilitating their development and modernisation.

The envoy will also focus on the continental high-speed train, which is one of the flagship projects of the First Ten-Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063, in the context of the relevant African Union decisions.

He will interact with the current champions of related African Union initiatives and seek their guidance, to ensure the required synergy and coherence.
