Excitement Builds up as Safari 7s Returns To Nairobi

The long awaited rugby #Safari7s is coming back to Ngong road this year at the RFUEA Grounds from the 9th to the 11th of November 2018 after after an eight year hiatus which saw Nyayo Stadium host the tournament in 2011 and 2012 and Moi International Sports Center taking over from 2013-2016.

“The Safari Sevens returns to its spiritual home after an eight year hiatus that saw the tournament played at the Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums in the intervening years from 2011 to 2016. Last year’s event couldn’t take off due to the prevailing political climate in the country. The return of the tournament to the RFUEA Grounds is one that is bound to trigger nostalgia, an electric atmosphere both on and off the pitch, something to look forward to,” said Kenya Rugby Union’s acting CEO, Sylvia Kamau.

The 2018 edition of the Safari Sevens will take a 12 team format. This is in line with other international events like the Olympics and the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and will provide both competition and entertainment over the two days of the main event.

With a few weeks left to the tournament, Kenya Rugby Union has received confirmations from seven international teams, 2015 Champions and 2016 finalists, Samurai Rugby will be gracing the tournament this year alongside Spain, Portugal, Golden Lions.

The Uganda Cranes will also be participating in this year’s Safari 7s together with the Red Wailers while Kenya will field two sides as has been the tradition, Shujaa and Morans.

Tickets to the tournament are now on sale as excitement builds up ahead of the tournament. There will be Safari 7s branded buses at Kencom Stage that will ferry anyone with a ticket to and from the venue during the weekend. The buses will be operational from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
