It seems these are happy times for the Raila family. The family has had to deal with losing three painful presidential elections in which the senior Raila was a favorite. They also lost Fidel Odinga in 2013 under a mystery that no one has dared to unravel.

But the past few days could be one of the happiest that the Raila family has had in many years. On Saturday it was announced that the former Prime Minister had landed a job at the African Union as the High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.

President Kenyatta broke the news during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kakamega County.

It seems that was the first of a lot of good news that the family would receive in the days to come. It has now been revealed that Raila Junior, who is the ODM leader’s only surviving son has now landed a job as a columnist in one of the local dailies.

The younger Raila announced the news on his Twitter handle on Monday morning. He however didn’t reveal the identity of the newspaper, just saying it is a distinguished local daily.

“Good morning tweeps, I’ve been granted the opportunity to write an opinion piece for a distinguished daily paper, of which I feel is such a great honor and I’m super excited about.”

Raila Junior Odinga has come out to champion for legalisation of marijuana in the country.  He says when he posted on social media about his support for marijuana, he was tackling a subject many people have always avoided, yet it is around us and affecting the society.

To him, society is evolving and there is need to openly and honestly talk about marijuana and other subjects treated as taboo yet their effects are devastating.
