Corruption Suspect Found Dead in a Hotel Under Mysterious Circumstances

A finance officer summoned to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission as found dead in a hotel room in Eldoret this week.

Stella Jepkoech was among five officials summoned to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to answer questions on misappropriation of funds.

Described by her colleagues as a guru in matters finance, the deceased was also said to be battling depression and had a rocky relationship with her boyfriend.

Apparently, she had invested heavily in her man but later found out he was married.

Eldoret South Police Commander Abduba Waqo said Ms Jepkoech checked into the hotel on Tuesday evening and the next morning, a room attendant knocked on her door but there was no response.

The hotel manager called officers from Langas Police Station who came and broke into the room, where they found her dead.

“When our officers broke into the room they food and the body of the deceased on the bed with a container with a substance believed to be poison,” said Mr Waqo.

Prior to this, Jepkoech was also ridiculed via an audio recording that was shared widely in Nandi County.

The recording accused her of using county resources to enrich herself, listing properties she had acquired fraudulently.

Assembly Clerk Isabella Maiyo, who followed Jepkoech’s medical condition closely, said she was a disturbed woman.

“Jepkoech has been on treatment for a mental disorder; she was scheduled for a medical review a day after she went missing,” said the clerk.
